At our Spring Membership Meeting, members enjoyed an insightful presentation from Sailors for the Sea, Powered by Oceana, focused on environmentally mindful boating practices.

The program offered a thoughtful look at the ways our time on the water impacts the marine environment, along with simple and practical ways we can all make more sustainable choices while sailing.

A big thank you to Sailors for the Sea for sharing their knowledge and resources with our community.

Many new students experience a steep learning curve with nautical vocabulary and beginning sailing concepts. Fortunately, online resources and "apps" are readily available to support a student's sailing skills. The following YouTube link provides a basic tutorial on the basics of sailing, including terminology and points of sail:

Additionally, students can access apps  to evaluate current weather, wind, and tides. The following screenshot includes icons for a variety of apps that help a sailor evaluate weather conditions, ensuring a safe and fun adventure on the water. Ask your instructors about their favorite sailing app or online resource.  Happy sailing!

P.S. Thanks to TWSA student, Cathy Cloran, for sharing the YouTube link.
